About us
Mission Statement
Our mission, as a 507(a)(2) rabbit rescue, is to improve the lives of the abandoned and feral domestic rabbits living in Connemara, Ireland through public education, restriction of population growth through sterilization, provision of safety and care, and facilitation of the fostering and adoption of these rabbits into loving homes.
Decades ago, people abandoned domesticated rabbits into the wild in Connemara, Ireland. Since then, they have been reproducing like, well, rabbits! It is very important to understand that these are NOT wild rabbits. They are an entirely different species. Domesticated rabbits may be able to survive for some time in the wild, but without constant access to dry hay or grass, their molars will overgrow and eventually become a painful problem. Many are hit by cars or mauled by animals, before dental problems or lack of essential nutrients become a problem. When these bunnies get sick, there is no loving family to notice and take them to the vet. If wounded or ill, they will likely suffer in silence and slowly die alone.
Here in our area we have recognized rabbit overpopulation is a problem and we are here to offer ideas for solutions. This rescue has been created as a way for concerned people to connect, plan, and organize rescue efforts to help stop the overpopulation and provide these innocent animals with the shelter, love, nutrition, and medical care that they truly deserve. We believe every rabbit deserves a life free from suffering, neglect, and cruelty. Our team works tirelessly to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome rabbits, ensuring they receive proper care and attention. Our hidden secret? We're fueled by compassion, driven by dedication, and inspired by the resilience of these remarkable animals.
VOLUNTEERS
Meet Ronan, Our Bunny Extraordinaire
We're thrilled to showcase the amazing work of our volunteers, and Ronan is definitely one of a kind. Ronan's journey with Bunny Haven Sanctuary began when his girlfriend Hannah surprised him with a birthday adventure, spending the day with our furry friends. It was love at first sight. Both Ronan and Hannah became volunteers, and they've been dedicating their time to our sanctuary for about 8 months now.
Ronan's Dedication:
Despite driving a long distance, Ronan's passion for our bunnies keeps him coming back for more. His love and care for our furry friends are truly inspiring, and we're so grateful to have him on our team.
Meet Aisling
Aisling has been a dedicated volunteer at Bunny Haven Sanctuary for 1.5 years, and her journey with us began when she lost her beloved bunny companion of 13 years and sought a way to honor his memory. Since then, Aisling has been an invaluable asset to our team, lending her time and talents to various aspects of our sanctuary, including bonding sessions, events, adoptions, and website maintenance. As a board member, she provides valuable guidance and support. We're deeply grateful for Aisling's compassion, dedication, and expertise. Thank you, Aisling, for making a difference in the lives of our bunnies! 🐰❤️"
